Eureka is a town of about 1000 residents located just south of the Canadian border, nestled between the Whitefish and Purcell mountain ranges. Its proximity to Lake Koocanusa, and numerous other lakes and rivers along with some of the areas best rock climbing make it a great destination for peaceful outdoor recreation. At over 92 miles long and spanning two countries, Lake Koocanusa is a prime fishing and boating destination. The largest rainbow trout caught in Montana came from a spot just below the dam and the annual run of the landlocked Kokanee salmon bring the fisherman out in droves. During the right time of year, you can see the elk herd around 1000 strong in various spots through out the valley. You wont find any big box stores or chains here. Shopping local goes with the small town feel. Annual festivals like Rendezvous which celebrates the areas pioneer past, and the Bull Thing rodeo turn out the town. In fact, last year was the first time that Eureka hosted a PBR event. Eureka is the kind of town where most people know and look out for each other.
