Located on the shores of beautiful Whitefish Lake, Whitefish is the cultural hub of the Flathead valley. With world class skiing at Whitefish Mountain, luxury resorts on Whitefish Lake, boutique shopping, phenomenal restaurants and a theater company, this little town of only 7000+ residents has many of the amenities of much larger areas without sacrificing the small town feel. It’s a bit like Park City before the crowds but with better skiing. The annual winter carnival, weekly farmers markets and other regular activities provide a fun community atmosphere.
The town originally known as Stumptown for all of the stumps left by clearing timber for the train station, abounds in outdoor recreation. With numerous lakes, hiking and biking trails, and Glacier National Park to the east the crown jewel is still Whitefish Mountain (formerly Big Mountain). With 3000+ acres and over 100 trails, Whitefish Mountain is the place to ski in the Northwest. A great family friendly mountain, Whitefish Mountain has something for everyone from bowl and tree skiing to night skiing. During the summer months, the fun continues with mountain biking, zip lining and an alpine sled run. Whitefish doesn’t lack in cuisine either with a number of great restaurants serving food from burgers to more eclectic fare like barbeque shrimp and grits.
With all that this area has going for it, Whitefish Montana real estate is some of the most expensive per square foot in the area. It is a market that has a larger proportion of vacation property to include ski in ski out condos and lakefront timeshares. There are also a number of parcels of land available throughout the area to build that custom dream home on.
