As the gateway to Glacier National Park, Columbia Falls residents enjoy easy access to one of America’s most beautiful places. Recreational opportunities abound outside of the park as well with great rafting opportunities on the Flathead river, helicopter tours of the park, Skiing at Whitefish Mountain, hiking, fishing and more. With a population of around 4700 there are plenty of amenities and shopping opportunities nearby while maintaining the small town feel. Glacier Park International airport is about a 15 minute drive from the center of town.
Glacier National park is one of the top 10 most visited national parks in the country for a reason. With over 1500 square miles of area and over 700 miles of trails to explore, you won’t exhaust all the possibilities of this great park. The Going-to-the-Sun road is considered by many to be one of the most scenic drives in the world. There are many recreational sites along this rustic route, offering hiking, fishing, sightseeing, photography, canoeing/rafting and camping opportunities. McGregor Lake offers great fishing (a friend of mine caught a trout that was almost 3 feet long….no really… it’s true), boating excursions and postcard like beauty. Grizzly bears, black bears, elk, moose, deer and mountain lions can all be seen in the park. Learn more about this amazing park at the National Park service website here.
