True to its name, this quiet community of under 2000 sits on the west bank of the Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. With convenient access to the larger area and shopping of Kalispell (8 miles to the north) but with the small town feel, Lakeside is a great destination for those who want quick access to the lake. Centered on lake fun, Lakeside offers a number of professional fishing charters, sailboat and powerboat rentals, kayaking and more. There are also a number of boat slips for those who already have their own aquatic conveyance. The lake has a number of islands to explore and camping, hiking and mountain biking opportunities abound. Slightly larger in surface area than lake Tahoe, Flathead lake is home to Bull, Lake and Cutthroat trout, along with Yellow Perch and Whitefish. Lakeside is also home to Blacktail Mountain ski resort, an affordable, family friendly mountain which gives out free day ski passes to fifth graders. You can find out more about Blacktail mountain, here.
Lakeside real estate offers a number of homes and parcels with stunning lake and mountain views as well as lakeside condos and cottages. You will pay a bit of a premium for the proximity to the lake. However, with the Canadian dollars decline, the statistics show that Lakeside real estate has become more affordable over the last year with the median home price declining 4.2% from 2014 to the 2015 value of 284,500. This is a bit above the US median home price of 224,100 but not to much above considering Lakeside is a community located along one of the largest and most pristine lakes in the western United States.
